Conde Nast Traveller (UK), March 2003: "If you want the full-on Tuscan aristocratic-palazzo experience, the all-suite Palazzo Magnani Feroni south of the river is now the benchmark. This private townhouse became a hotel in 2001, but its chandeliered salons, frescoed libraries, rooftop terrace and billiard room are still intact, so one really feels like a marchese's house guest."
Live like a 16th century Tuscan aristocratic at this Heritage listed palazzo in the heart of Florence

good for you
You''ll feel like a Medici swanning about in this 16th century Florentine Palazzo.
Detail and ornamentation are lavishly spread throughout the salons and corridors, surprising the wanderer with frescoes, vaulted ceilings and intricate wood-carvings. While renaissance-era dŽcor prevails in the palace, which follows a traditional Florentine lay-out, the rooms are all equipped with 21st century conveniences including CD players and wireless internet.
During the French domination of Italy, an important French dignitary lived here and threw extravagant parties for the international elite, including royalty; in the mid-17th century the family of the present owner bought it and lived in it, and in 2002 it was carefully restored and is now an exclusive twelve-suite hotel.
Breakfast is served in a spacious salon with hand-crafted wood ceilings illuminated by a large original Murano chandelier. In the winter evenings, this salon becomes a sexy, candle-lit bar, accessible only to Palazzo guests and their friends. The same goes for the billiards room, as well as the in-house gym, ensuring guests absolute privacy. The beautiful rooftop terrace offers views of Florence that any Lucy Honeychurch would swoon for, and in the summer months it becomes the Palazzo bar. The service at this hotel is of a very high standard, and you have all the beauty of Florence within easy walking distance.
good for italy
An architectural jewel of the 16th century, the Palazzo Magnani Feroni belongs to the National Register of Historical Monuments of the State of Italy and was carefully restored in 2002 under the auspices of Italy''s heritage authority, ensuring a sensitive restoration that will allow future generations to enjoy it in all its splendour.
Highs
- The rooftop terrace, a beautiful place to enjoy a drink while taking in the spectacular views of Florence.
- The service. With only 12 suites in the palace, the service is round the clock and highly personalised the concierge is only too keen to help you enjoy your stay in Florence.
- Despite its grandeur, this is a child-friendly hotel, and cots are provided for babies free of charge.
Lows
- As a heritage-protected building, restoration and remodelling was tightly controlled and could not include modifications for wheelchair access, so some disabled guests may find it difficult to get around.
- The hotel has yet to introduce Eco policies in the hotel.
- All this opulence does come at a price!
Rooms
The hotel has twelve suites of varying grandeur and cost. All suites have a bedroom and lounge area / room, many have views of Florence.
The bigger suites come with 2 bedrooms and can sleep up to 4.
The beds are extremely comfortable and come with down quilts; the walls are decorated with frescoes and antiques and beautiful renaissance art works are placed throughout the suites.
Despite being in a 16th century palace, you have all the technological advances of the proceeding centuries within reach, subtly positioned so as not to clash with the 16th century style.
Room facilities include: Wifi internet, direct phone, satellite TV, CD and DVD players with a selection of films and music, an electronic safe, hairdryer and even an in-room data port are included in each suite. Daily newspapers are delivered to your room in your preferred language.
Special treats include chocolates on your pillow at night, a choice of soap flavour on arrival and Bulgari bathroom products.

Food
A sumptuous continental and hot breakfast is served in the 160-square metre salon, which at night becomes the candle-lit hotel bar. Features of the salon include hand-crafted wood ceilings illuminated by a large original Murano chandelier. Your newspaper of choice is brought to you at breakfast.
Light Italian meals are available throughout the day although the hotel does not have a restaurant as such.
There are plenty of restaurants in the area and the very helpful staff are more than happy to make recommendations and bookings for you.

Sustainability
An architectural jewel of the 16th century, the palace was completely restored in 2002 and is now listed by the National Register of Historical Monuments of the state of Italy. Detail and ornamentation characterises the building throughout, with frescoes, vaulted ceilings and intricate wood carvings. The renaissance dcor prevails in this palace of traditional Florentine layout. All works and restorations at the palace were completed under the supervision and guidance of the "Belle Arti" of Italy, which protects the country's cultural heritage. The palace is privately owned by Dr. Alberto Giannotti, whose family have owned it since 1735.
The small scale of the operation - just 12 suites - keeps it relatively low-impact for a city hotel and did not involve changing any of the layout of the hotel or dividing any existing rooms.
