If you want to see just how relaxed you can get, this spa-cum-bead and breakfast is the perfect place to test your limits. On the shores of a tropical island, with a coral reef at its doorstep, the Sante Wellness Centre has just three guest rooms set in lush tropical gardens, with a swimming pool for cooling off or sunbathing.

The hotel's boat picks you up at the quayside and skims you across the bay to its serene location surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. There is no road access, no noise, no neighbours and no crowds. Perfect!

At the spa you'll be treated to an array of services including body wraps, salt glows, European facials, massage and more. The spa treatments feature natural products - not to be missed is the chocolate massage, which will see your skin smeared in the delicious substance, native to Central America and highly prized by the ancient Mayan civilisation.

The B&B hires only locals and trains its own beauty therapists free of charge. All staff are educated about local environmental protection. Sante has its own water collection system, anaerobic septic system, and clean water filtration system. Drinking water and teas are provided so guests need not buy bottled water, and all glass bottles are recycled. All guests are requested to conserve water, turn of lights and AC when not in use and dispose of waste properly.

The hotel buys locally and, as much as possible, organically. It supports local medical centres and sporting clubs, and actively participates in the preservation of the local mangrove ecosystem.

Sante Wellness Centre uses fine European and American facial and body products that cool and refresh, or warm and relax. Whether you choose a European Facial, Le Stone Massage, or other professional spa service, you'll leave the spa feeling rejuvenated and relaxed.

Select a Spa Package to spend an entire day receiving spa treatments or opt for an individual treatment. The menu allows you to personalize your service to receive what you might not need, but truly deserve!

All services are supervised by a licensed nurse practitioner/esthetician/certified massage therapist. Sanitation practices meet all U.S. standards.

scuba diving:

Roatan is famous for its variety of coral, which you can see from only a short boat ride away. You'll float past thousand-foot walls festooned with deepwater gorgonians, coral gardens and barrel sponges; pillar coral; 60-foot deep ledges crowded with blackcap basslets; mini-walls clustered with bluebell tunicates; pinnacles overgrown with azure vase sponges; and shy indigo hamlets peering from niches. Miles of reef leave diving uncrowded and many areas have yet to be explored by visitors. Large groupers and moray eels are a common sight. On any given dive, a hawksbill turtle or spotted eagle ray may gracefully glide by. The reefs are so extensive that it would take months of daily diving to see each known segment. Dive trips and all equipment can be arranged by the hotel.

snorkeling:

Rich and pristine coral reefs surround Roatan making excellent snorkeling opportunities right offshore. Sante can take you boat snorkeling to a variety of great nearby reef locations or you can choose to snorkel from shore, using the hotel's private beach.

fishing:

Fishing boat charters can also be arranged, with the operators picking you up right at Sante's dock in one of their seaworthy boats. All of your gear can be provided. Half day and full day charters are available.

Mangrove Tour: The mangroves on the shores of Roatan island are instrumental in the stability of the environment, providing refuge for a variety of marine life and protecting the surrounding reef from sediment during runoff. What's more, they are quite beautiful to behold.

The Sante Mangrove Eco-Tour combines an enjoyable overland tour of the island of Roatan, a pleasant boat ride through the mangrove tunnels of Jonesville, followed by a relaxing hike on well-maintained trails along the shores of First Bight.

Roatan is blessed with a warm tropical climate. Bring sun protection and insect repellant - there's no malaria risk here, but the sand flies in the evening can be a pest. Rubbing baby oil on your legs helps stop them in their tracks.

Sustainability

Sante's Mangrove Tour teaches visitors about the importance of the mangrove to the health of reef as it limits run off during heavy rains and provides spawning ground for fish. The hotel supports the local Marine Reserve and works alongside Mangrove Action in an effort to educate the local population to discourage mangrove removal which is illegal under both Honduran Law and not International Law.

The lodge hires only Honduran staff and the therapists are trained onsite free of charge. The hotel also provides its staff with some important environmental education - in particular, the hotel teaches staff that spear fishing is illegal and diminishes the reef population in the hope that this will be passed on to friends & family. Helping to raise staff awareness about environmental protection and the relevant laws against slashing and burning, hunting iguanas, littering and netting often challenges traditional practices, but is vital for the protection of Roatan's natural environment.

All the hotel's food is purchased locally and from family-run vendors. Organic food comes from the local hydroponic farm.

by air:
